Movie Review ‘Carrie’ - A Must Watch Halloween Movie for All the Bullies!
What happens when a girl gets pushed too far? The answer could be both unexpected and horrifying! The movie "Carrie," based on a novel by Stephen King, is the classic story about a girl who has telekinetic powers.
The plot of the story revolves around a girl who is very isolated and shy among her peers in her school. She gets constantly picked on by the other girls and things go too far one day at the school prom.
"Carrie" has telekinetic powers and has been sheltered and homeschooled by her deeply religious mother. The movie has some graphic images showing how her mother gave birth to her on her own and at the school prom.
Chloe Grace Moretz, who plays the lead role as "Carrie," brings the character to life in a brilliant performance. She accurately portrays the fear, confusion and problems experienced by a teenage girl who is considered too different.
The previous adaptation of the novel was the movie with the same title released in 1976. The 2013 movie has been made more relevant for the new generation audience and includes smartphones and video sharing angle as a form of bullying.
The movie shows the bullying by the other girls very early, when one of the girls takes a video of "Carrie's" very first period, as she cries for help, not understanding what is happening to her. The video is also shared online.
There have been multiple incidents of cyberbullying recently across the globe, including Australia. Many have called for strict actions to tackle the problem by suggesting mandatory jail time for bullies and punishing social media companies and even schools.
The movie asks pertinent questions like "Is it alright for others to stand by and watch another person getting bullied?" Another interesting point is that what may seem like a harmless joke to some may mean extraordinary pain and suffering for the victim.
The movie takes the viewers on an emotional journey as they see things from the victim "Carrie's" perspective. It highlights how she is so different by the way she dresses and her background and her aspiration and struggle to fit in.
The horrific ending of the movie makes the audience wonder - is "Carrie" justified in what she did to her peers? The movie has some stunning graphics in the end, making it one of the best movies to watch this Halloween!
