It seems as though the video streaming niche has been dominated by Netflix. But if you want to try out other services just to get a feel of what other options are out there.

Check out some of the contenders for the video streaming service market, and see if you might find one that would be as good-or even better?-than the famed Netflix.

Amazon Prime Instant Video

Amazon has joined the bandwagon of instant video streaming services as it introduces the Prime Instant Video.

End Gadget reports that paid Prime members of the site in the U.S. now have access to free and unlimited streaming of 5,000 movies and TV shows. This means that along with your $79 a year membership, you get to watch these videos.

Of course, you shouldn't expect the quality to be top-notch, but at the very least, you can expect a more-than-great video viewing experience-at zero cost.

Redbox Instant

Verizon has also released its Redbox Instant, which will cost you around $8 every month. And for that little fee, you already get unlimited streaming plus DVD dentals from physical Redbox kiosks.

According to Digital Trends, you get good quality for the streaming, and there is already an app available in beta mode. Want to stock up on videos for later viewing? Redbox Instant allows this feature as well.

Vudu

Even Wal-Mart has dipped into the pool of video streaming services with the Vudu. What makes it stand out is the compatibility of its offered videos to many platforms.

But in the same vein, PC Mag reports that this can also be the criticism for Vudu, as the resolution and availability can be dependent on the device being used.

If you're one of those who can't stay in front of the TV for long, and wouldn't mind watching something that's not HD compared to other services, Vudu is not a bad choice.

Crackle

The first thing that grabs your attention with Crackle is the fact that it's free. This alone trumps Netflix's $7.99 for those who are looking for a way to watch the shows without overhauling their budget.

A good perk to note would be the instant free streaming even without the registration. But those who do subscribe get to personalize their account, have a list of favorite videos, and even organize your videos.

Of course, the free service comes with a catch, reports Gadget Review, as you will have to endure ads while watching the content. Plus, in terms of the quality of the videos, you can't expect HD in Crackle.
