'Mr. Robot' Season 2 will be about Elliot and law enforcement
Elliot will have to face the consequences of his big hack in “Mr. Robot” Season 2, showrunner Sam Esmail said in a recent interview. The next season will focus more on how the law enforcement agencies will react to the events in the previous season.
[Spoiler alert]
Esmail said that Elliot (Rami Malek) has committed a crime by hacking Evil Crop and the next season will focus on the response of law enforcement agencies, Entertainment Weekly reports. “That’s why you see that introduction of law enforcement, which you deliberately didn’t see the first season,” he said.
Grace Gummer has been cast as a federal agent and she is expected to play a big role as the story moves forward. Since Evil Corp is a major multinational and the problems of the company affect the whole nation, the FBI will get involved to trace the hackers.
One major issue that has been in the headlines recently is that of privacy and the show will tackle this issue in the next season. Esmail revealed that while they were having a conversation about the plot of “Mr. Robot” Season 2, the debate about whether Apple should help the FBI erupted.
“I think it’s a really important issue, and I’m not sure people really understand the nuances about it,” Esmail said. The next season of the show will also explore the idea of whether we truly have privacy or not.
The show will continue to make it as authentic as possible. Emails said that one of the scenes in which Elliot types a code is an actual code that Malek had to type line by line. The TV series won high praise for the accurate depiction of hacking on screen in the first season.
The release date of “Mr. Robot” Season 2 is expected to be by June or July. The producers have so far not announced an exact release date.
