MTV Video Music Awards 2016: Britney Spears, Rihanna, Nick Jonas and Future to perform
The MTV Music Video Awards has become an avenue to create iconic and controversial moments. This year, the lineup includes Britney Spears, Rihanna, Nick Jonas and Future.
Making a comeback to the stage is none other than Spears herself, who has taken a decade off from the MTV VMA stage. According to AM Network, the 34-year-old singer will be performing “Make Me,” from her upcoming album “Glory.” She will be joined by G-Easy.
In another performance for the 2016 MTV VMAs, audiences can expect to see Rihanna. While her song choice is unknown at this point, as is whether or not Drake will be joining her on stage, it is certain that Rihanna is not walking away empty-handed from the awards show. The 28-year-old “Work” singer is the recipient of this year’s Video Vanguard Award, and she is also nominated for Best Female Video (“Work”), Best Collaboration (“This Is What You Came From” and “Work”) and Best Male Video (“This IS What You Came For”).
Nick Jonas will be performing his hit single, “Bacon.” Ty Dolla $ign, who is featured in the track, will also make a special appearance on stage.
The most recent addition to the 2016 VMAs lineup, according to Billboard, is Future. Though his setlist is still unknown as well, it is sure to be a performance not to miss. After all, he has scored three No. 1 albums in the past year -- 2015’s “DS2,” his joint project with Drake “What A Time To Be Alive” and 2016’s “Evol.”
He has also kept busy by releasing the “Purple Reign” mixtape and contributing to DJ Esco’s “Project ET: Esco Terrestrial.”
"My creativity comes from me being in the studio and my past situations," Future said in the promo of his performance. “It's about becoming one with the beat. It's about taking the beat places the beat never thought it could go."
The 2016 VMAs will be held at Madison Square Garden on August 28, at 9 p.m. ET and will air live on MTV in the US.
