Fancy for a dual-boot or even multi-boot Nexus 7? Folks at XDA Developers claim it is now possible for the Google tablet to carry two or more mobile OS, thanks to the newly-created MultiROM.

This multi-boot solution for the Nexus 7 "can boot android ROM while keeping the one in internal memory intact or boot Ubuntu without formatting the whole device," XDA quoted Tasssadar, the ROM's developer, as saying.

With this powerful app installed on the 7-inch tablet, users can start running stock Android on the device with the option of having the popular CyanogenMod 10.1 on the side.

By its name, MultiROM is perfectly capable of accommodating more than two platforms but that will depend on the storage capacity of Nexus 7 that users own.

However, this limitation is set to be solved soon, according to Tasssadar.

"For now, ROM can be only in internal memory of the device, but booting from USB is planned, I am trying to get support for 'kexec' into Ubuntu, which is essential for this," the developer said.

While the spectre of getting more from the Nexus 7 besides its Android environment is inherently exciting especially for hardcore Android fans, XDA warned users to proceed with caution as moving up on this level poses possible risks.

"There is an inherent risk of wiping your data or even damaging your device, as it does mess with the /data partition and boot sector," XDA said.

But if MultiROM behaves within the designs of Tasssadar, "your system and data should be safe," the developers' site added.

This new ROM works on all Nexus 7 configurations, including the 3G version recently unleashed by Google, Tasssadar said.
