Mum in Germany Gives Birth to 13.47Lb Baby Girl Without Aid of C-Section, But Still Far From Guinness Book of Records Record Holder
A mum in Germany has given birth to a whopping 13.47 pounds heavy baby girl, in what has already been touted as the country's largest-ever baby born so far.
According to local media Die Welt, Baby Jasleen's mother gave birth to her naturally, or without the aid of Caesarian section, at the University Hospital in Leipzig.
When she came out, Baby Jasleen's length was recorded at 57 centimetres long or 22.6 inches.
Still, Baby Jasleen is small compared to the record holder in the Guinness Book of Records.
In 1879, 7'5" tall Canadian mum Anna Bates gave birth to a 23 lb., 12 oz. baby boy. He died, however, 11 hours after. The boy's father was 7'11" tall.
But cute as she may be, Baby Jasleen has to be strictly monitored. Doctors believed she arrived at that weight because her mum had a previously undiagnosed case of gestational diabetes.
Gestational diabetes lead to excessively high birth weights.
Baby Jasleen continues to be confined in the hospital's neonatal care unit, but doctors said both her and her mum are doing well.
Baby Jasleen outbumps a 13-pound boy named Jihad, born in Berlin in 2011 as Germany's current biggest baby at birth.
