‘The Mummy’ cast: Reason behind Russell Crowe, Tom Cruise feud
Filming for “The Mummy” reboot has wrapped, but the set was full of tension between top-notch actors Russell Crowe and Tom Cruise. Reports claim that Crowe has not been able to stand Cruise because of the way the latter treated his ex-wife.
New Idea Magazine claimed that Crowe has never forgiven Cruise. This was due to the latter’s treatment of Nicole Kidman. Cruise and Kidman had been married for 11 years.
“He hasn't been able to stand Tom for years,” a source told the magazine. The source reportedly added that if the two men remained to be friends, Crowe would feel like he was betraying Kidman. So he opted not to have Cruise in his life.
“He is very protective of his friend,” the source added. The insider said Crowe is a loyal guy. Over the years, the Oscar winner has been linked with Kidman but maintained that they have only been friends since day one.
Cruise and Kidman married in 1990 and called it quits in 2001. Mail Online has reported that Kidman said she begged Cruise not to end their marriage. But he pursued his way out and she lost the baby they had conceived.
In Cruise and Crowe's upcoming film together, Cruise plays Nick Morton, an amoral tough guy who runs a Cruise foul of a resurrected ancient Egyptian. Crowe, on the other hand, plays the elusive Dr. Henry Jekyll.
Director Alex Kurtzman has teased fans about what to expect from the film. He said that it is their ability to sympathise with the monsters that has made them endure. “There’s an origin story happening on two different fronts,” Kurtzman told Entertainment Weekly.
Other “The Mummy” reboot cast include Annabelle Wallis (“Annabelle” and upcoming “King Arthur:Legend of the Sword”), Jake Johnson (“Jurassic World”), Russell Crowe and Courtney B. Vance (TV’s “American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson”).
“The Mummy” reboot is slated to hit Australian theatres on June 8. Release date in the US follows on June 9.
