‘My Kitchen Rules’ 2016: Carmine & Lauren use their mighty magic of apple tarts to cheat sudden death; Lauren loses cool
The dreaded “sudden death” claimed another team on Monday’s episode of “My Kitchen Rules” (MKR) 2016. The team who were shown the door was Victorians Eve and Jason. They meet their end because of Adelaide couple Carmine and Lauren’s apple crumble tarts with cinnamon ice cream.
Both teams started on a low with their entrees failing to impress judges Colin Fassnidge, Pete Evans, Manu Feildel and guest judges Karen Martini and Guy Grossi. Carmine and Lauren’s entree of homemade tortellini in broth was “stodgy” and “clumsy.” Eve and Jason’s choux pastry gnocchi with spring vegetables and roast tomato sauce should have been fluffier and judges criticised it for the lack of spring in the veggies.
“There’s nothing spring about those vegetables. I mean, they diced zucchinis, diced carrots, diced onion — doesn’t seem spring. Those are the vegetables you can find all year round,” said Manu.
Eve and Jason also produced a disappointing main of lamb cutlets with parsnip puree, mushrooms and jus as it lacked “razzmatazz.” There was nothing special about the dish and hence not at all suitable for a sudden death round.
Then came Carmine and Lauren’s main of beef brisket with mushy peas and roasted bone marrow and the judges were stunned by its taste. Words like “superb,” “splendid” and “This is my type of food” greeted the duo.
It was a do-or-die situation for Eve and Jason and they went straight into the kitchen to wow judges with their dessert of lemon cheesecake. However, Carmine and Lauren’s apple crumble tart with cinnamon ice-cream was way better and that meant end-of-road for Eve and Jason. Martini found Carmine and Lauren’s dessert “impeccable,” and Colin was at a loss of words.
“In four years here I’ve only had one dessert as good, and that was in the grand final. So for me that was a 10 out of 10,” he said, totally mesmerised by the dessert.
Even though Carmine and Lauren advanced to the top six, MKR fans were left frustrated with Lauren’s behaviour. She was aggressive from the very start calling Jason’s sideburns “chops.” Then she lost her cool on people in general.
“I wanna stick it to all those people who said I couldn’t do anything with my life. Stuff youse! Screw all those people that be drinking that Hater-ade!” she said.
Lauren kept on repeating she “ain’t going home” and will not let “chops” takes her out. MKR fans were quick to lash out at Lauren.
Lauren please note, contestants who act mean on this show tend to have a hard time coming to terms with their notoriety when it ends. #MKR
