Tuesday’s episode of “My Kitchen Rules” 2016 saw the seven remaining teams up against each other in a supermarket challenge. The teams were given the freedom to choose their items and then prepare family-friendly meals in front of the shoppers. However, the tough part was to convince the customers to vote for their dishes. The winners would be safe from the next elimination and their recipe would be featured in the Coles magazine.

As South Australia’s Rosie and Paige and VIC’s Gianni and Zana prepared the worst meals, they would be competing against each other to avoid elimination in the challenge. Things did not look up for Rosie and Paige as they crumbled under pressure while preparing their dish of prosciutto, camembert and sage chicken breast with pearl couscous.

Judges Pete Evans and Colin Fassnidge both criticised their dish. Pete found the meat dry and Colin pointed out that the cheese seemed to be falling out of the wrapped chicken. However, lawyers Gianni and Zana’s dish of ricotta gnudi with roast pumpkin and sauteed mushrooms was equally bad.

“I wasn’t happy with them at all. Crispy on the outside but when you actually open them up they were extremely dry. I liked your mushrooms, I did like your spinach and I did like your pumpkin. But they weren’t the star of your dish,” Pete said of Gianni and Zana’s dish.

Carmine and Lauren’s dish of lamb backstrap with roasted garlic and celeriac puree was unexciting and left the judges confused. Pete criticised the duo for not putting in much thought into their dish. Eve and Jason were praised by the judges for preparing their most exciting dish yet in the competition, confit salmon with ruby grapefruit and fennel salad. Sisters Tasia and Gracia also produced some amazing satay beef with nasi goreng and achar.

The judges loved WA’s Anna and Jordan’s port braised beef cheeks with parsnip puree and pickle salad. They simply couldn’t find a fault with the dish. However, Chris and Cookie’s dish of peri-peri chicken with Spanish rice impressed the judges and customers most, and they were awarded the “customer’s choice” award. They are thus safe from the next two eliminations.

Tonight it will be Rosie and Paige versus Gianni and Zana at “My Kitchen Rules” 2016’s sudden death round. Who do fans want to win?

“My Kitchen Rules” continues Wednesday night at 7.30pm on Seven.
