Australia’s top-rating cooking competition show “My Kitchen Rules” is coming to New Zealand. A local version has been confirmed, one that will hit screens on TV2 later in 2014.

The show is hugely popular in New Zealand, and that is why the network is positive that Kiwis will also love the upcoming version.

“New Zealanders just couldn’t get enough of My Kitchen Rules, with 2013 being the highest-rating season yet,” John Kelly, TV2 programmer, said, referring to the show’s most recent season in Australia, which was the most watched show of 2013 by Kiwis aged 18 to 49.

“For this reason, we are thrilled to be teaming with format-owners Seven Network Australia, Endemol, through who the format was licensed, and Imagination TV who will produce the first local version of MKR, where Kiwi teams will battle it out in the instant restaurant rounds and create dishes and drama that will captivate the nation.”

No specific date for the premiere of “My Kitchen Rules” in NZ yet. More details will be announced soon.

“My Kitchen Rules” sees teams of two competing for the grand prize. Their platform is their own kitchen, where they invite the judges and the other teams to eat the dishes they have prepared, transforming their home into a themed restaurant.

New Zealand is the fifth country to acquire rights to film a local version of the show. Serbia, the UK, U.S., and Russia also have adapted the show.
