Mystery Teenager Who Lived in German Woods for 5 Years, Walked His Way to Berlin City Hall
Who is he and why did he live for five years in the woods, assuming his story is true?
A boy believed to be about 18 years old showed up at the Berlin city hall early September to seek help, saying he had lived with his father in German woods for five years, but he walked his way back to the city after his dad died two weeks ago.
German police are now looking into the unnamed boy's profile, who is now with social care services. The boy has so far not been matched to any report of a missing person.
German media reports say the boy calls himself Ray, speaks in fluent English and knows a few German words. Unfortunately, the boy knows no one else except his parents.
However, the police department would not release the boy' story about his mother.
Claudia Elitok of the Berlin Police said, "He speaks fluent English and a few words in German," noting that the boy was "found in good condition."
"He remembers his name but we are not releasing it... He explained that the last five years were spent in the woods with his father, then his father died and he buried him... He was walking for two weeks before getting to Berlin... He has said what happened to his mother but I can't go into that information."
The boy was carrying a tent, a sleeping bag and a backpack when he turned up at the city hall. He said he headed north from the woods with the help of a compass.
