The “naked” haunted house has just been asked to don some clothes on. The Naked and Scared Challenge at the 2013 Shocktoberfest Scream Park in Pennsylvania in the U.S. has been requested by town officials to let thrill seekers to at least put on underwear upon entering the attraction.

Just in time for the upcoming Halloween, Shocktoberfest owner Patrick Konopelski has created the nude haunted house to offer visitors a unique scare experience.

The idea, which was inspired by the “Naked and Afraid” TV series on Discovery Channel, was simple: let the guests walk through a haunted house without the protection of their clothes.

It’s not meant to be a sexual experience, though. It’s about exploring a new level of fear and pushing oneself out of their comfort zone. For many people, one form of comfort and protection that they can rely on is wearing clothes. And that’s the protection that the park wanted to take away from guests.

Those who want to experience the challenge, but are not quite ready to frolic fully nude, they can take the “prude” challenge, in which they are allowed to wear their underwear but nothing else.

Seems like a good enough idea, but unfortunately, it was shot down immediately by town officials.

A statement on its Facebook page explains:

“When we designed The Naked and Scared Challenge, our goal was to bring you an experience like you have never seen before. We had no idea how quickly it would spread across the country and the world.

“In its original design, we were offering the ‘nude’ or ‘prude’ options. Although the Naked and Scared Challenge is legal, due to this worldwide attention, it has been requested by our township officials not of (sic) offer the ‘nude’ option.

“Not wanting to engage in a battle with our municipalities, we have decided to concede. We are still offering the ‘prude option of going through the Unknown with nothing but your underwear. We still feel confident this experience will be very intense. In discussing this with Spring township officials, we may be able to offer the ‘nude’ option next year.”

The organisers added that customers who purchased the ‘nude’ option may get a full refund if they don’t want to do the ‘prude’ challenge.

The Shocktoberfest scream park also has other attractions, including Zombie Revenge Haunted Hayride, Prison of the Dead Escape, The Unknown, Club Shock, and Monster Midway.

It is open from Friday to Sunday from September 21 to November 3.
