Nancy Binay, the 40-year-old eldest daughter of the country's vice president, is at the eye of a public storm as her election is being cited in a satire of Time magazine as a reflection of the nation's stupidity.

Many voters questions her lack of political experience to immediately jump to a national post when all she did in her 20-year professional life is to be a personal assistant to her parents, Jejomar and Elenita Binay, who alternately served as mayor of Makati, the country's richest city.

However, more than 12 million voters wrote her name on their ballots on Monday, May 13, assuring the dusky new politician a slot in the 12 vacant slots of the Upper Chamber.

Now an instant, nay notorious celebrity, she would likely be approached by companies to be their endorser because of her name recall and the noise her winning has generated.

Among the skin colour jokes that came her way is that of breakfast cereal Koko Crunch, which she could endorse if Nestle would ask her to.

Would she also endorse skin whitening products such as Glutathione pills, creams and services of spas? Most likely she wouldn't because they would be a pun on her skin tone and only bolster the wrong notion that white is beautiful and black or dark brown is not.

However, one product that recently launched a controversial ad could serve as her debut in the world of commercial advertising because of its advocacy that beauty is not skin deep.

It would be the perfect vehicle for Nancy because it would not make light of her dark skin colour but emphasise that what is more important is the inner beauty which would radiate in her aura.

But such a commercial could still capitalise on her typical Filipina skin hue, and to make the message stronger, she could be joined by two dusky compatriots who are also proud of their colour.

One would be model/actress/TV host/comedienne Wilma Doesnt who was discovered while sweeping the front yard of their house. It was her unique physical appearance that swept Wilma from anonymity into a top model and a Playboy magazine cover girl.

However, she also appears in sitcoms that still capitalises on her olive skin to generate laughter.

The second model who could join Nancy and Wilma to create a perfect Dove trio would be Charo Ronquillo, grand winner of the Ford Supermodel of the World Philippines 20005 search and 3rd placer in the World Finals 2006 contest held in New York City.

Like the two women, Charo has typical Filipina features, including not-so-white skin complexion. However, it is exotic features like those that many western fashion and beauty companies like to serve as their image models.

She has since then walked the catwalk of top couturiers and graced the cover of fashion magazines, clearly saying that dark is beautiful.

Of course, Nancy could also choose to concentrate on her newfound job as legislator, excel and disprove her critics that she deserves the more than 12 million votes she got, which earned Manila the ire of satire makers.
