Naomi Watts joins ‘J. Edgar’ as Leonardo DeCaprio’s long-time assistant
Watts plays Helen Gandy in "J.Edgar" to be directed by Clint Eastwood
British-born Australian actress Naomi Watts is joining the casts of “J.Edgar”, a film to be directed by veteran actor and director Clint Eastwood, that will also feature Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover.
Deadline Hollywood reported hat the 42-year-old actress is playing Helen Gandy, the loyal secretary and assistant who worked for Hoover for 54 years.
Hoover is the first director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States and he was a great influence in many of the prominent personalities in Washington D.C.
Watts will portray Gandy as the reliable keeper of the FBI Director’s secrets. According to Aceshowbiz, the film focuses on how Gandy (Watts) destroys these information for weeks, in order to protect and not incriminate the Capitol’s powerful officials.
Gandy’s character was also offered by the Warner Bros. to Charlize Theron, who opted to go for “Snow White and the Huntsman”. Aside from Watts, Amy Adams was also considered for the part should the Australian’s schedule did not fit with the film production.
Watts is also featured in a thriller film “Dream House” which also star Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz. Her latest projects include “Mother and Child”, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” and “Fair Game”.
