Native American Inspired Lingerie Caused Controversy; Other Victoria’s Secret Controversies [PHOTOS]
Victoria's Secret issued an apology for the Native American inspired lingerie that Karlie Kloss wore at the recent Victoria's Secret fashion show.
Most of the outfit was fine: a leopard print bikini, turquoise jewelry and fringe-covered heels. What had people riled up was the big Native American headdress replica she had on. In the end, Victoria's Secret decided to pull the outfit from its broadcast and marketing materials.
Here's the statement that Victoria's Secret posted on their official Facebook fan page:
"We are sorry that the Native American headdress replica used in our recent fashion show has upset individuals. We sincerely apologize as we absolutely had no intention to offend anyone. Out of respect, we will not be including the outfit in any broadcast, marketing materials nor in any other way."
Model Karlie Kloss also posted an apology via her Twitter account, "I am deeply sorry if what I wore during the VS Show offended anyone. I support VS's decision to remove the outfit from the broadcast," she said.
Victoria's Secret is no stranger to controversy. Last September, the lingerie giant offended some people with its "sexy little geisha" outfit that appeared in its catalogue.
The Asian-inspired getup from Victoria's Secret's Go East collection, includes a mesh bodysuit with floral patterns on the bra cups and crotch, a tiny floral fan, a removable obi belt, and matching chopsticks with tassels.
Photoshop is also one of the big controversies of the company. VS has a proven tendency to take things a step too far, using computer tools to slim down legs or beef up the breast size of their already gorgeous models. Somehow it is hard to imagine that these kind of alterations are needed to the VS angels like Adriana Lima, Doutzen Kroes, and Candice Swanepoel.
The show airs on CBS on December 4.
