Naughty Dog Confirms Multiplayer For 'Uncharted 4'
One of the most fun and praised aspects of the "Uncharted" series returns as Naughty Dog has announced that "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" is bringing back its critically acclaimed multiplayer mode during an interview with Game Informer magazine. While not much of a surprise considering that multiplayer was a big component for the previous games, it's still a welcome announcement for fans that want to test their skills online.
The first game in the series, "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune," didn't originally have multiplayer and was solely focused on being a single player game, but the next two sequels changed that. First debuting in "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves," the mode was a hit right off the bat and gained so much popularity that the next iteration "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" had a beta test for its multiplayer before the game's official release.
Eventually, they released the multiplayer mode of "Uncharted 3" as a downloadable title on the PSN Network, with a free-to-play module. It's clear that the multiplayer mode has been beneficial to Naughty Dog as it increased the replay ability and life span of the last two games.
What made the multiplayer such a success was that it mixed standard multiplayer staples like team death match and capture the flag with the "Uncharted" series gameplay mechanics. Players were able to leap tall distances, use their fisticuffs for brawling, snap necks stealthily and of course, participate in a loud, climactic shoot-out. It was an experience just as exciting as the thrilling single player mode, with IGN stating that the multiplayer by itself is worth the full price tag.
Naughty Dog hasn't revealed if a public beta for "Uncharted 4" multiplayer is in the works like what happened with "Uncharted 3" according to a report from Gamespot. With the game coming to PlayStation 4 later this year, expect an update in the upcoming months.
Set three years after "Drake's Deception," the game features the return of everyone's favourite, wise-cracking thrill seeker Nathan Drake as he teams up with his long lost brother Sam to find the mythical pirate utopia in Madagascar. Drake is the only returning character from the series seen, so far, and actually starts the game retired, but forces unknown have forced him back into the thief's game.
