The Brooklyn Nets named recently retired point guard Jason Kidd as their next head coach, signing him to a three-year deal on Wednesday.

Kidd, who guided the team to back-to-back triples in the NBA Finals in 2004 and 2005, reunited with the franchise in a capacity of a head coach.

Despite lacking coaching experience, Kidd convinced the Nets front-office and owner Mikhael Prokhorov that his 19 years playing experience with several NBA contenders made him the right man for the job.

ESPN analysts and Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson believe the Nets made the right decision in hiring Kidd as their next head coach, believing the former triple-double machine will be successful in his new career. Kidd is third in all-time triple-double list with 107, just behind Magic Johnson (138) and Oscar Robertson (181).

"Do I think Jason Kidd is going to be a great coach? Yes. Would I hire him? In a heartbeat," Johnson said in a conference call Wednesday, according to USA Today.

Kidd, who signed a three-year deal with the Nets, will be coaching a franchise that is coming off a first-round exit in the playoffs despite stacking up with talents such as Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, and Brook Lopez.

In other NBA news, San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker is questionable for Game 4 of the NBA Finals after suffering a slight hamstring strain in Game 3's 113-77 win over the Miami Heat at AT&T Center.

"We'll talk with (Spurs coach Gregg Popovich)," he said. "Coach Pop always prefer the rest, to avoid injury. If it was the regular season I would definitely have rest. I would not play. And same thing here, it's an injury, and so we'll see. We'll see how I feel tomorrow."

Game 4 of the NBA finals is scheduled on Thursday, still at the AT&T Center.
