NBA Free Agency 2015 : Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade Agree On 1-Year $20M Deal
The Miami Heat and Dwyane Wade have agreed upon a 1-year contract that will bring the three-time NBA champion for another go-around with the only squad he played for. The deal brings flexibility to Pat Riley’s team as the league prepares for the rise of the salary cap when the television deal inflates the maximum space to $90 million next summer.
The agreement raised Wade’s pay from the $16.1 million guaranteed he forfeited when he used his player option but did not serve his purpose of nabbing a long-term contract. He disclosed that his family’s roots with the city played a large portion into his decision to stay as is the sit down with team owner Micky Arison.
"Sitting down with Nick, sitting down with Micky and having conversations with them that I've never had, that was big for me," Wade said. "I've never had a business conversation with one of them. They got to show me how much they really wanted me to be here, how important it was for them that I continue to wear one jersey.”
As expected, the Heat could not comment on the development up until it makes the agreement final when it actually puts the handshake agreement into ink and paper on July 9, when the league moratorium is lifted. The fans of the organization have been clamouring to bring back the biggest franchise player in the team’s history and Wade alluded to that following as playing a big role in the return. Aside from the Heat fans, no less than Wade’s teammates expressed their enthusiasm with his return, including Chris Bosh who took to social media Twitter his joy over having another go-around with his close friend.
The return of Wade and the potential extension of free agent guard Goran Dragic will allow coach Erik Spoelstra to finally trot out the line-up the team envisioned during the trade deadline. The team mortgaged its future by sending future first round picks to the Phoenix Suns for Goran Dragic only to see its plans of fielding a formidable team crash when Bosh was ruled out for the season with lung blood clots. With Wade on board, the Heat can only hope that this time around, the health gods would smile upon them.
