Al Horford racked up 17 points and 12 rebounds, and knocked down a 20-foot jumper with 4.2 seconds left on the clock as the Atlanta Hawks edged the Dallas Mavericks 88-87 on Saturday at Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

With Josh Smith and Joe Johnson no longer around, Horford emerged as the man for the Hawks. So far, the Dominican Republic forward lived up to expectation, doing everything he can to keep the Hawks competitive in a wide-open Eastern Conference race.

Shawn Marion recorded 15 points and 12 rebounds while Jose Calderon and Dirk Nowitzki each scored 16 to lead the Mavericks' effort. However, when the game was on the line, Dallas just could not buy a shot that could have given them their 11th win of the season.

Jeff Teague racked up 25 points and six assists while Paul Millsap added 15 points for the Hawks, who stifled the Mavs in the last three minutes of the game.

The Mavericks already lost their third game in four games and dropped to 10-7 this season while the Hawks improved above .500 at 9-8.
