NBA News: Carmelo Anthony To Miss Rest Of West Road Trip Because Of Back Spasms
Carmelo Anthony suffered back spasms that caused him to miss half the game against the Houston Rockets and the entire game against the Dallas Mavericks. Anthony’s New York Knicks lost both games but probably more importantly, there are worries that the back injury could last all season long as reported by Marc Berman of New York Post.
“The concerns are whether this becomes a season-long issue and related to the disk. Amar’e Stoudemire experienced severe back spasms in the 2011 playoffs after a pregame trick-dunk maneuver. It wasn’t until much later the Knicks revealed he had damage to his disk,” Berman stated in his article.
New York is currently holding a 4-12 win loss record, one of the worst not only in the Eastern Conference but in the entire league. Curiously, the Knicks battled hard and competed in their last two games. New York lost to Houston, 91-86 last Monday and to Dallas, 109-102 in overtime on Wednesday.
In the game versus the Rockets, the Knicks had seven players score seven points or more and even had the lead, 80-79 with around five minutes to go in the game. Against the Mavericks, New York forced overtime with a late jumper from J.R. Smith only to fall in the extra period. Smith heated up late and finished with 15 points while veteran point guard scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against his former team.
“It’s not as much being frustrated with the injuries — moreso feeling the sense of disappointment for our players that they haven’t gotten a chance to be whole and really find out what they’re capable of doing together,’’ Fisher said in the same NY Post article. “They’re frustrated and disappointed where we are right now. But it’s not an excuse for where we are.”
The Knicks battle the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday and Anthony is not expected to suit up for his team. Anthony, who leads the team in scoring with is hopeful that he can get back to the action when New York hosts the Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Hornets in a three-game homestand starting on Sunday.
