The New York Knicks reportedly waived Chris Smith, the younger brother of reigning Sixth Man of the Year J.R Smith.

Smith played two games this season as a member of the Knickerbockers. Despite his release, he's entitled to receive his full salary because his contract is already fully guaranteed. A source close to situation disclosed the move to waive Smith was done to accommodate the signing of big man, Jeremy Tyler, who's doing pretty well for the Erie Bayhawks.

"The New York Knicks have decided to waive Chris Smith, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPNNewYork.com that the Knicks were in the process of finalizing the move Monday to create a roster spot to sign Tyler, who has been playing for the Erie Bayhawks, the Knicks' D-League affiliate, since going to training camp with New York," CBS Sports reported.

The Knicks initially planned to release Cole Aldrich for Tyler, but it decided to waive the seldom-used Smith. Chris Smith's inclusion in the Knicks roster was widely panned by several analysts and players in the first place because it believed Smith is not good enough to play in the league.
