NBA News: LeBron’s Decision Will Come After Talk with Wade, Bosh
The Decision 2.0 is Coming
Welcome to The Decision 2.0.
LeBron James was much-criticized for the first “Decision” when he jilted hometown team Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2009. Four years later, he’s again at the crossroads of his career and the world awaits the choice of perhaps the greatest player in the world today.
Before making his decision, James is committed to having a meeting with fellow stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to discuss their future in Miami.
"There is a conversation that will be had between the three of us -- I think that's only right," James told ESPN.COM. "We've earned that for each other. I don't know what Dwyane right now is thinking. I don't know what Chris is thinking right now. We'll see what happens."
The Heat are off an embarrassing NBA Finals loss to the San Antonio Spurs and that could be a factor when LeBron or the other two Heat key players make their decision.
"I don't even know who the unrestricted, restricted, (early termination options) guys are, I haven't even dug into that," James said in a Bleacher Report article. "And for me, I don't even know if that's my position. I think that's what Riles is so great at. And obviously Spo is going to get into it, and seeing guys who can help us be better. Because every team in the NBA continues to get better every year, and we need to get better as well. We have some holes that need to be filled."
Pat Riley is facing a tough challenge in trying to convince all three to stay in Miami; that is if the Heat president and general manager even wants that option.
All three have a “player option” to stay in Miami for the 2014-2015 season. James will be paid $20.59M; Wade $20.09M; and Bosh $20.59M if they choose to play another year for the Heat.
The trio, who has delivered 2 championships and 4 finals appearances for Miami, can be broken up if one of them decides to bolt—a better option financially for any since other teams can offer them a longer deal. James is 29 years old, Wade is 32 and Bosh is 30.
There's also a question if the team is good enough to contend in the coming years. The answer lies on how Riley reloads in the offseason. Mario Chalmers, Shane Battier, Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis will become free agents on July 1 as well.
