Newly-acquired Cleveland Cavaliers small forward Luol Deng understands that his current team may wait if they have a chance to land LeBron James before discussing on possible extension.

Deng, who was traded by the Chicago Bulls to the Cavs in exchange for Andrew Bynum's contract, said he fully understands the team's plan to hold on negotiations until they determine their chance in nabbing the four-time NBA MVP.

"He's a great player, why wouldn't you look at him?" Deng told Yahoo Sports. "If he wants to come back home, that's great for him and great for this organization. He's a great player. Why not?

"I'm all right with that. I'm here to do what I can do and be Luol Deng. I don't really worry about it. I don't have the mindset that I can control what everyone else thinks. I just do what I can do and try to be the best at what I do," he added.

Deng averaged 18.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists this season, but he has so far contributed 10 points in a 113-102 win against the Utah Jazz and 12 points & 5 rebounds in a 80-124 loss to the Sacramento Kings.

Meanwhile, James is expected to become a free-agent again this coming summer, and is widely anticipated that the Cavs will be one of the frontrunner to land the service of the best basketball player in the world.

James is averaging 26 points, 6.6 rebounds and 6.5 assists for the Miami Heat this season.
