Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook could return from a knee injury in two weeks, a source close to situation reported on Tuesday.

Westbrook, who was originally scheduled to make his season debut six to eight weeks from Wednesday's opener after undergoing a second surgery on his knees, could return earlier than expected after making a steady progress from injury.

The former UCLA standout averaged 23.2 points and 7.4 assists before he went down in Game 2 of the Thunder's first-round clash with the Houston Rockets. Westbrook collided knee-to-knee with Rockets' Patrick Beverley, resulting to a tear in his right meniscus.

For the meantime, Kevin Durant is expected to carry a big load on the offensive end as the Thunder try to look the third wheel in their team after the departure of James Harden (traded to the Rockets) and Kevin Martin (free agency, Minnesota Timberwolves).
