NBA: San Antonio Spurs 113, Golden State Warriors 100
When healthy and playing their regular rotation, the San Antonio Spurs remain a dangerous squad worthy of being called the defending champions. Led by Frenchman Tony Parker, the Spurs proved that on Wednesday beating the upstart Golden State Warriors, 113-110 for their fourth win in seven games. The Warriors dropped back-to-back games after winning five straight to begin the 2014-2015 NBA Season.
Parker finished with 28 points missing just 6-of-17 shots and added 7 assists, Tim Duncan ended up with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds and Kawhil Leonard had 19 points and 6 rebounds. Manu Ginobili came off the bench to add 17 markers to lead the Spurs’ reserves, which outscored the Warriors’ bench, 40-20.
The Spurs led 50-44 at halftime before padding up the lead to a dozen point advantage entering the payoff period, 82-72. San Antonio did not let up in the final quarter to hold on to the victory. This was the first game by Warriors head coach Steve Kerr against former mentor Gregg Popovich, who coached Kerr when he played for San Antonio from 1998 to 2001.
Harrison Barnes had 22 points on 9-of-12 field goal shooting with 8 rebounds for the Warriors, which were missing the services of David Lee out due to a hamstring injury. Klay Thompson, who missed the last game because of a hand injury, came back to score 29 points and added 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The missing link for the Warriors was star point guard Stephen Curry, who missed all of his seven shots from behind the arc to finish with 16 points.
The Spurs now have won back-to-back games for the first time in the new season with wins versus Los Angeles Clippers, 89-85 and the Warriors in the last two. Golden State lost to the Phoenix Suns, 107-95 last Sunday.
