'NCIS' Season 14 episode 1 spoilers: Gibbs and his team are back with a bang on ‘Rogue’; new characters experience baptism by fire [VIDEOS]
Find out why Gibbs earns the nickname ‘Goldilocks of NCIS’
“NCIS” returns on the small screen on Tuesday, opening Season 14 with an explosive episode. Fans are expected to watch closely how Tony DiNozzo’s (Michael Weatherly) absence impacts the highly popular series, and how the new characters add spice to the team.
In the season’s pilot run, titled “Rogue,” special agents Alexandra "Alex" Quinn (Jennifer Esposito) and Nicholas "Nick" Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) get their first slice of the action. Right off the bat, Torres clashes with Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) as they deal with a sensitive case. Meanwhile, after failing to satisfy Gibbs’ stringent requirements for a new agent, Quinn gets invited to observe the team to determine what he’s looking for.
‘JAG’ veteran Patrick Labyorteaux appears on the Sept. 20 episode as Navy Captain Bud Roberts, Jr. He joins other “NCIS” cast members who will also be featured on the upcoming episode, including Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Eleanor Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen). Also appearing on the “NCIS” Season 14 episode 1 installment are Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll), Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette) and Dr Donald Mallard (David McCallum).

TV Guide reports that on Tuesday’s episode, Gibbs requests Quinn to shadow his team as they look for a new special agent to join the tea. Meanwhile, the “NCIS” team delves into a deadly car explosion. The case is particularly special since it is connected with a special agent who went missing six months ago while he was in an undercover assignment in Argentina.
CBS posted sneak peeks of the Season 14’s pilot episode on its YouTube page.

In one of the trailers, McGee welcomes Bishop back and she updates him about her recent trip in Scotland. A probationary agent then appears, ranting that Gibbs fired him. Speaking of Gibbs, he walks in and asks McGee and Bishop to gear up for a new case. “Good to be back,” she quips.

Quinn appears in another preview video as she sarcastically congratulates Gibbs for rejecting the last eight agents that she referred to him. Gibbs hints that they have worked together before when he says, “I’m lucky to have you as an instructor.” He also defends himself, saying that every agent she has sent was not the right fit. She doesn’t buy it and is confused why he’s being too picky. “You’re like the Goldilocks of NCIS,” she teases. When she asks what he’s looking for, he just says that he’ll know it when he sees it. Gibbs then offers her to shadow his team so she’d know what kind of agent they need.

The last teaser shows Quinn revealing to Bishop that Torres spent eight years doing nothing but undercover work. Torres then arrives with Gibbs and McGee. Torres pleads Gibbs to allow him to face Leo Silva, who’s attenting the World Oil and Energy Conference. He claims that Silva won't leave until he gets what he wants: “me and my family dead.” Gibbs informs him, “That's not how we do things.” Nick argues that he knows how he operates and Gibbs can't sideline him.
