Channel Eleven posted a sneak peek of Thursday’s episode. In the trailer, Piper blasts Terese over her budding romance with Ryan. Piper calls her mum a hypocrite, considering that he’s younger than Terese. Xanthe tells Piper that she should go out with someone inappropriate to convince Terese that Tyler is the better choice. Digital Spy reports that Piper will go on a blind date with a middle-aged man. After Piper’s public outburst, Terese changes her mind and lets Tyler take Piper to the dance but only as a friend. However, it’s not sure yet whether Tyler still wants to go.
Meanwhile, Gary tells Amy that he plans to borrow money to buy Xanthe her dress. However, in the last scene, Gary tells someone on the phone, “I’ll do it.” It’s a puzzle whether Gary’s talking to Dave, who offered him a quick but shady way of earning money, or Paul, who’s willing to give him a loan, according to Digital Spy.
“Neighbours” recap
On Wednesday, Jimmy’s accident left Karl frustrated about bikes and cars sharing the road. Susan told him to put his money where his mouth is and do something instead of just complaining about it. Wanting to prove to Susan that he could definitely walk the talk, Karl pitched to Sonya an idea of installing designated bike lanes on the road to reduce related accidents. However, Sonya told him later that the idea has to be put in the backburner for now because she couldn’t get enough support for the cause. Sonya cited that installing bike lanes would not just be expensive, it’s quite unpopular. Karl didn’t take it too well and decided to organise a protest in an attempt to change the councilors’ minds.
Meanwhile, Paige feared that she’s ruined the possibility of being with Jack after he caught her kissing his mate, Dustin. When she approached Jack about it, he lashed at her for her careless act, saying that Dustin’s in a vulnerable state and doesn’t need anyone messing with his head. Paige blasted him for ignoring her messages and calls, and Jack retorted he was with Amy at the hospital because of Jimmy’s accident and emergency surgery. Paige felt terrible, especially after Jack accused her of being selfish.
At the hospital, Jack confided to Karl about Paige. Jack said he’s worried about Dustin, but what hurt him was seeing Paige with another guy. Karl said Jack could still serve the church and be involved in the community without having to be a priest. Karl advised Jack to tell Paige how he feels, to let her see his point of view.
Jack heeded Karl’s advice and had a serious talk with Paige. Jack admitted that he was jealous and disappointed with Paige. He also shared that he realised something at the hospital: someone found comfort in his faith. When Amy was at her most vulnerable state, she asked Jack to pray with her. He said he felt connected with God in ages, reminding him what he could do with His guidance. Jack said he finally felt what it’s like to have purpose and meaning and he couldn’t wait to tell Paige, because she is the most important person in his life. Paige said she’s willing to support him and his faith. Jack said he still needs to decide how much commitment he has to give to the church. Paige grew frustrated and urged Jack to make a choice.
Xanthe’s over the moon about the upcoming school dance and could talk about nothing but the formal. Her expenses for the dress, shoes and hair and make-up soon began to pile up, making Gary problematic. He wanted to make up to Xanthe, but the school dance is bleeding him dry. He decided to go fishing to clear his mind and figure things out. He invited Toadie, who agreed. Gary started receiving calls from a person named Kev M, but he kept on ignoring it. During their exciting fishing activity, Gary opened up to Toadie about his mounting financial issues. Toadie said it’s pointless for Gary to bankrupt himself just because he wanted Xanthe to have the best night of her life at the dance. Toadie told Gary that sometimes, it’s wise to say no.
However, when he returned home, he found Ben trying out his suit for the formal. Susan said she and Karl decided to splurge on his outfit, making Gary have second thoughts again about Xanthe’s dress. What’s more, Susan pulled him aside and told him about Xanthe’s struggles in school. Susan recommended hiring a professional tutor for her, which would cost money. He decided to call the guy contacting him earlier, Kev M. It turned out to be Dave, his friend from jail. Dave offered him a job, but it would involve a dodgy deal.
