“Neighbours” recap
On Tuesday, Terese went back on the stand to reveal that Cecilia’s testimony wasn’t entirely true. Terese admitted bribing Cecilia to embellish her story. The judge told her Cecilia lied about the most crucial part of Paul’s defense, and for that she’s facing some serious charges. Toadie appealed for a mistrial, but the judge didn’t approve of it. Despite the surprising turn of events, the jury found Paul guilty of the charges against him, shocking the courtroom especially Paul. He held back his tears as his sentence – imprisonment for 14 years – was being read.
He went straight to prison, stripped of his clothes, possession and his dignity. Later, Steph became Paul’s first visitor in jail. She insisted that they lodge an appeal in his case, but he said he’s had enough and he’s done. He also said he didn’t want anyone visiting him anymore. Steph shared this with Amy, but the two ladies are determined to free Paul. On the way to prison, Amy ran into Terese and lashed at her for making Jimmy lose her grandfather. “I just hope you can live with that,” Amy sneered.
Despite Paul’s wishes, Amy and Jimmy went to see Paul and brought him cake. Paul talked to Amy alone and reiterated his request not to visit him anymore. “I need you to get on your lives without me,” he said. Later, when Amy broke this news to Jimmy, he took it badly. He felt like Paul was rejecting him, just like his dad and Kyle. He ran off, discarded the chess clock Paul that gave him and cried his heart out.
At home, Terese invited over Brad, Lauren and Ned to celebrate their victory. While preparing the food, Piper berated her mother for resorting to bribery and lying. She also insisted that Paul may not be the one who caused the accident, based on her interview with him. However, Brad shot her theories down and told her that she’s being naïve. Lauren, on the other hand, felt awkward with Ned’s presence and said she had to leave for work. A bit later, their little party screeched to a halt when Mark arrived to arrest Terese for perverting the course of justice.
While she was mulling over the mounting charges against her, Terese was also informed that she’s being fired from her job. When Walter dropped by and brought her flowers, she thought he’d finally have someone who could cheer her up. However, he said he couldn’t stay and said he’s worried where their friendship is heading. In so many words, Walter said he couldn’t start a relationship with her since he needs to focus on his family. Once she was alone, she turned to the bottle to drown her misery. When Piper arrived home, she saw a door ajar and found Terese’s feet. Terese was clearly unconscious, but Piper couldn’t budge the door open to help her.
