New 'Alien' Film: Neill Blomkamp Teases Portrait Of An Alien As He Annouces Next Film
There is a new “Alien” movie on its way and “District 9” director Neill Blomkamp has been roped in to direct it. The director made the announcement of his new movie on his Instagram page. He posted a black and white portrait of an alien to his Instagram page and captioned it as “Um... So I think it's officially my next film. #alien.”
Neill has been hinting about the project for quite some time. He has been posting the images of an alien on his Instagram page for a while. “I was in the end process of Chappie, and when my workload started to decrease, I could start thinking about what I could do next. I started working on that project without Fox knowing. That’s not a normal process,” he revealed to Yahoo Movies about the alien’s Instagram images.
The title of the new “Alien” film is yet to be confirmed. According to Variety, the film could be set years after Fox studios another sequel “Prometheus.” However, the website notes that Neill’s film is different from “Prometheus 2,” which is being directed by Ridley Scott. “Prometheus” tells the story of a crew on spaceship who, in the wake to discover origins of humanity, end up discovering a threat, which can lead to the extinction of humanity. The storyline of Neill’s “Alien” film is still unknown.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old filmmaker is reportedly passionate about directing sci-fi films. He has two highly successful sci-films, “District 9” and “Elysium,” to his credit. He has also directed the upcoming sci-fi film “Chappie,” which is based on Neill’s short film “Tetra Vaal.” “ Chappie” tells a story of an experimental robot who is endowed with the ability to learn and feel. When the evil forces tries to take him down, he must decide to fight them back.
“Chappie” stars Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel and Hugh Jackman. It has been produced by Simon Kinberg. Neill and Terri Tatchell has written the screenplay for the film. “Chappie” is scheduled to release on March 6, 2015. The film will also get an IMAX release on March 4.
