'New Girl' Season 3 Premiere Episode 'All In' Spoilers
The New Girl Season 3 premiere episode "All In" opens with what viewers have been left with the season 2 finale: Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) are getting back together or rather, dating officially. Schmidt (Max Greenfield), meanwhile, is caught between Cece (Hannah Simone) and Elizabeth (Merritt Wever).
Jess and Nick wind up at Mexico, where they crash along and get caught by an immigration police. The plot that plays along Nick and Jess angle is something that viewers would not expect from a season premiere since we know how these two people think. "All In" means they are in for everything together putting everything on the line too (including a passport).
Nick is the same immature and irresponsible guy to the point that he wants to leave Schmidt and Winston because, well, they are hard to handle. Jess, on the other hand, is over the moon on the first part but when Nick has been caught, she goes back to reality. She then sort of becomes responsible for Nick ("Nick is my b**ch"). Viewers now somehow know the dynamics of the Nick-Jess relationship in the future.
That is the opposite of Schmidt's case. Schmidt's plot is more exciting in this episode because of having to juggle time between two girls who dearly love him. Viewers can't blame his indecision because both girls have a different good effect on Schmidt.
Schmidt did everything for Cece, while Elizabeth has brought Schmidt's non-douchebag side. So in the end, Schmidt decides not to 'choose' between the girls. He instead makes each one believe that he has chosen one over the other. It may seem selfish but there is an element in Schmidt's that makes viewers understand his longing for someone who cares for him.
Winston's "puzzling" addiction plays out as the third plot of New Girl Season 3 premiere. In this episode, Winston and his buddies realize that he is colour-blind, and it's why he cannot complete the puzzles. (In the Season 2 finale, Winston gets injured by a badger bite. Could the colour blindness be a result of residul toxin?)
The premiere has drawn lukewarm reception, with users saying on social media sites that they "didn't feel it." Some were disappointed. Some quick-witted quips are rather quite unexpected like this one from Schmidt.
"If you think your shoes are brown, what color do you think you are?"
