To help reduce Jess’ (Zooey Deschanel) anxiety over her new job as school principal, Nick (Jake Johnson) and Schmidt (Max Greenfield) take her to Solvang to relax. Spoiler alert: This recap contains plot details about season 6 of “New Girl.” The sixth season premiered Sept. 20. The show is available in Australia via Tenplay.
Newly engaged Winston decides to meet with his wife Rhonda to discuss their divorce. The two apparently got married as a prank. Winston needs to settle everything with Rhonda first before he can tie the knot with Aly (Nasim Pedrad).
When a seemingly fragile Rhonda arrives carrying a baby, she tells Winston he’s the father. Winston takes the baby and promises to never abandon him like his father did to him. A few seconds later, his wife whispers to his ear, “You just got Rhonda’d.”
Rhonda then signs the divorce papers and leaves. After Winston writes his signature on the documents, he realises that Rhonda used disappearing ink. She later tells Winston and Aly that she will only sign the divorce papers if they, including a caught-in-the-middle Cece, agree to join her an elaborate prank she’s cooking up for her cousin.
Once the prank is done, Aly gives Rhonda a taste of her own medicine by pretending to have a burning reaction to the jelly Rhonda used on her hair. Rhonda is impressed, and agrees to finally sign the papers. She also lets Aly unknowingly sign adoption papers to make her the latter’s “mom.”
Jess, meanwhile, is getting unstable as her first day as school principal draws nearer. Nick and Schmidt decide to take her to Solvang to relax. When they get there, Schmidt realises that he, like Jess, also isn’t ready for his new job.
Nick takes control and decides that they go to the place’s distillery. Unfortunately, they get themselves locked inside the cellar. Jess chides Nick for trying to solve problems like a teenager and says she never wanted a Rumspringa in the first place.
Nick owns up to his childish ways and promises to grow up. They make use of the stocks inside the cellar for hours before Schmidt uses a cork wire to open the distillery’s door. It’s already Monday morning when they head out, and Jess refuses to go to work on her first day as principal. Good ol’ Nick comes to the rescue and convinces her to get on with it, and Jess does.
