The Hulk's newfound popularity just keeps on smashing.

Fresh from the box office success of The Avengers, the menacing green giant is being prepared for his new set of adventures. Studio network ABC is reportedly cooking up a TV series for Hulk. According to ABC Entertainment president Paul Lee, the network is pursuing the development of this new series.

Disney's affiliation with Marvel paved the road for many spin-offs like this one. Lee said that this planned series did not find a green light this 2012 season, but there's a big possibility that it may come into fruition next year.

"We've got some in development, but none that I can talk about at this point," Lee said about other Marvel projects in the works.

The third modern incarnation of the Hulk was played by actor Mark Ruffalo, whose convincing portrayal of Bruce Banner and his angry alter-ego Dr. Bruce Banner earned him praises from critics.

He had signed a multi-picture deal to play the role, which might mean seeing him again on TV should the planned series come to life. Ruffalo is known for his roles in movies such as The Kids are All Right, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

It has been reported that a third stand-alone Hulk movie has been given the green light. The previous movies were portrayed by Edward Norton in 2008, and in 2003 by Eric Bana. Director Guillermo del Toro of Pan's of the Blade II and Hellboy fame is set to be collaborating for the new "Hulk" series. Del Toro also directed Pan's Labyrinth and produced Kung Fu Panda II.

The original TV series "The Incredible Hulk" was based on two TV movies aired on CBS from 1978 to 1982. The movies starred Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno. Hulk returned to the boobtube again in three NBC made-for-TV movies that saw airtime from 1988 to 1990.
