Apple iPhone 6 remains a mystery despite analysts' projections that the handset will be a reality by Q1 2014. But for designer Peter Zigich, the smartphone will definitely come and there will be three variants.

Apple made the iPod and the iPad in different sizes so why not three choices for the iPhone 6, Mr Zigich asked on his blog posting, deviating from earlier predictions that the Apple phablet will sport a 4.8-inch screen with Retina.

His concept phones showed a regular-sized iPhone 6 with the following dimension: 124mm x 59mm x 7.6mm. On the front face, the iconic Home button was nowhere to be found, which was deliberately removed to accommodate the bigger screen size. M.r Zigich said.

Actually, the button was not eliminated at all. The designer thought it best that iPhone users would appreciate two Home keys but this time they'll be on both sides of the handset, an approach that achieved two things - clean front interface and double quick access to the Apple mainstay feature of the Home button.

"With Home button on the side there's room to add another row of icons, while physical dimensions remain the same as iPhone 5. More possible functions combining left and right Home buttons with single, double, triple click," Mr. Zigich said on his blog.

The iPhone 6 will retail at $US200 with contract while the unlocked version will sell starting at $US600 - the price levels similar to that of the iPhone 5.

Also, Mr. Zigich broached the idea of Apple releasing two more iPhone 6 versions - the iPhone 6 XL and the iPhone 6 Mini. The former is of course bigger than the regular iPhone 6 and is obviously geared to satisfy users that have been getting their fix from giant Android phablets like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

The Mini is a mass-market edition, catering to users who either are content to use small screen handsets or have the penchant to move around with small gadgets. Needless to say, this variant is the cheapest among the lot, likely to come with a tag price not exceeding the $US450 mark, unlocked.

The XL, on the other hand, is for the premium market, Mr. Zigich said, and should hit the market with a price point of up to $900, owing to its near-tablet size and functions.
