New Robo Cop Movie Trailer Released Plot Summary and Speculation [Watch Video]
Fans of the Robo Cop movie franchise will be delighted to learn that a new trailer of the upcoming movie has been released on YouTube. Here is the plot summary and speculation in terms of what to expect from the movie.
The Robo Cop movies were first released in the 1980s. The movie franchise had quite a fan following. The movie showed an honest cop turned robot take on criminals and tyrants.
The movies at that time touched on subjects like Crime, drug abuse, eviction from homes, poverty and corporate greed. The more prominent feature of the films was a guns blazing Robo Cop. The action packed movie had a lot of fight scenes and explosions.
The new Robo Cop movie is set in the year 2028. It is expected to cover issues like drone strikes, crime and corruption.
The new movie follows a similar storyline in terms of the cop Alex Murphy. The cop is seen paralysed due to a car bomb. The cop is then turned into a robot by a company called Omni Corp.
The company is seen telling the wife of Alex about the change before hand. In the previous movies the wife of Robo Cop only finds out about it much later.
Another change is that in the previous movies Robo Cop is machine first and the human nature is not overtly apparent in his mannerisms. The realisation that he is a human being also comes much later.
In the new movie there is a slight variation - Robo Cop knows who he is right from day one. The conflict between the part where he is machine and the human part is handled a little differently in the movie.
In the previous movies the conflict was shown between the "Prime directives" and his sense of justice. The new movie the conflict is seen between the "programming" and Robo Cops's freedom. Robo Cop is given an "illusion" of freedom where as in reality it is the computer which is controlling him.
But as in any good movie where the good guy always emerges on top, Robo Cop exerts his freedom over the programming.
The remake of Robocop is directed by Jose Padilha. The cast includes Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, Jay Baruchel, Jackie Earle Haley, Zach Grenier, Michael K. Williams and Miguel Ferrer.
The role of Robo Cop is played by Joel Kinnaman, the star was seen in movies like "Safe House", released in 2012 and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", released in 2011.
