A strange photo of an Asian girl was posted on Reddit this week allegedly showing the results of a new trend in plastic surgery. The Reddit user who posted the photo claimed it was a picture of an Asian girl who permanently curled the corners of her lips. The plastic surgery would put a permanent smile on a person's face.

Whether the photo is fake or real has yet to be confirmed but the said plastic surgery trend appears to be real.

According to reports from Business Insider, South Korea's AONE clinic was responsible for the new plastic surgery trend. Clinic founder Dr Kwon Taek Keun revealed a plastic surgery procedure known as the "mouth corner lift" in 2012 during the annual international convention for plastic surgery practitioners.

According to the conference Web site, he described the effect of the new procedure in which the patient after surgery will have a natural-looking smile because of the mouth corners lift. He said the mouth corners will remain up on an unsmiling face. When a patient smiles, the corners of the mouth will be more distinctive.

AONE has released a YouTube video with details of the new trend in plastic surgery. The procedure has been dubbed as "smile lipt" which seems to be a combination of the words "lip" and "lift".

According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, South Korea leads the world in terms of per-capita plastic surgery. Many women in South Korea went through plastic surgery to enhance their physical appearance and facial features.

Common cosmetic surgeries include nose jobs and eyelid surgery. However, as of late, more controversial and risky procedures have been on the rise. One of them was the double jaw surgery which gave women in South Korea a delicate face with a V-shaped jawline and chin. Fifty two per cent of women who had this surgery reported numbness on the face and difficulty in swallowing and chewing.
