New 'Star Trek' TV series: Patrick Stewart teases writer's room
Work has begun on the all new “Star Trek” TV series starring Patrick Stewart, who the fans will fondly remember as Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The actor has teased a picture of him with his creative team, working on the new show together.
Stewart previously announced at the “Star Trek: Las Vegas” convention that he will be reprising his role as Picard in a new TV series. The actor has now teased a picture of the writers’ room of the new show [see below].
“The journey has begun,” the actor wrote on Twitter. The writers’ room will comprise of Kirsten Beyer, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, Diandra Pendleton-Thompson, James Duff, and Stewart. The group appears to be watching something off-screen, which presumably is an old episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”
Given the diversity of the writers’ room, the show too can be expected to be diverse. It remains to be seen what new dimension to Picard the group will come up with, and what new stories and alien worlds the show will explore.
Stewart filmed his last scene as Picard way back in 2002. He had felt at that time that he is done with the character. The discussions about the possibility of him reprising his role, and playing an even more active role in the franchise came as a surprise to him, and the announcement of his return came as a pleasant and exciting surprise for the fans too.
The new series is for CBS All Access. Stewart and his team is yet to announce a title for the new show. They are also yet to announce the exact release date for the show.
With the script still being developed, it may take a few months for the team to get the story and the world building right. The next step would be to choose the directors and the cast.
