The recently anointed chief marketing officer of Telstra has yet to solve the problems that is facing the company right now.

Kate McKenzie, the new marketing officer, is said to be an expert when it comes to company complex problems.

"I love to get all the pieces fitting together beautifully so they run like a well-oiled machine... to bring together our technical expertise, our product development expertise and our marketing expertise to try and get those pieces working much more closely together," she said.

McKenzie is confident that she can do the job right and she's enjoying the challenge.

"I think my track record says that when I'm given a job I usually deliver what I've been asked to deliver and that's what I'll be aiming to do in this new role," she said.

Telstra is currently experiencing a decline on its fixed-line business and the company was forced to lower its rates to compete in the market. The unsolved fixed line problem will make McKenzie busier in the weeks ahead.

One of McKenzie's strategy is to introduce new products to help Australians get more digital in their homes. The T-Hub, a tablet-like touch screen phone, is set to bring Telco's struggling business back on the spotlight.

The T-Hub, will connect to Telstra's fixed line and broadband network will revamp its old landline to a touch screen device that is capable of using and receiving phone calls, text messages, browse the web, and even play music.

"I think the convenience to have the home phone with the touch screen gives an iPhone functionality where with one click you can have the internet and all your phone contacts for instant access," McKenzie said.

The T-Hub, which goes on sale this week, is one of the projects to fight the declining revenues.

McKenzie admits that she is still worried over the declining revenues and stated that the company must find a way to be more productive.

McKenzie joined Telstra's Telco regulatory team in 2004 and took over the public policy and communications role a year later following the Sol Trujillo scandal.

This year, McKenzie will oversee Telstra's whole business unit.
