French fashion house Givenchy made its debut at the New York Fashion Week (NYFW) on Saturday, with a tribute to the victims of 9/11. The much talked about show came to life with several live performances backed by live music and chanting by Tibetan monks. Also there was a rendition of Ave Maria at the end of the show.

In addition to presenting its collection for the first time at NYFW, Givenchy also recorded another first to its name by making its show open for general public, starting an inclusive trend at the NYFW. The common public was given a separate enclosure to watch the show, and also the tickets of the show were made available to students of fashion.

Ricardo Tisci, the creative director of the fashion house, had worked with his artist friend Marina Abramović on the concept of the show. Spiritual symbolism played an important part in his show, which the designer is known for, Guardian reported.

Givenchy’s collection featured silk and lace slips worn with slouchy black trousers, and dressing gown-style coats. The designer showed the vulnerability of women via masks made from the scraps of lace or tiny shells, New York magazine reported.

Tisci’s pals Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Hudson, Karen Elson and Liv Tyler attended the debut show and were seen seated in the front rows. Kendall Jenner walked for the designer as her half-sister and brother-in-law watched from the front row. Also sitting in front row were rapper Nicki Minaj and Vogue's editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. Julia Roberts also attended the show.

Meanwhile, Candice Swanepoel, who also walked for the fashion house, took a tumble on the catwalk. Members of the audience helped to get her on feet, ET Online reported.

The 26-year-old Victoria’s Secret angel was left with a bruised ego after the show, according to her Instagram post. At the same show, model Pooja Mor also tripped on the wooden stairs on the runway.

It is for the first time in 60 years that the French fashion house has showcased its collection outside Paris. The Spring/Summer 2016 show also marked the opening of its new store at Madison Avenue.
