New York Fashion Week: Kanye West showcases ‘The Walking Dead’ inspired Yeezy Season 2
Rapper Kanye West took fashionistas and designers by surprise when he showcased his “Walking Dead” and homeless inspired new collection, Yeezy Season 2, at New York Fashion Week (NYFW) on Wednesday, as it was not scheduled on the fashion calendar.
Ranging from sand to khaki, the clothing line, reminiscent of the homeless and “The Walking Dead,” featured skin tight leotards, leggings and oversized sporty garments. It sparked mixed response on Twitter, US Weekly reported, and the 38-year-old was criticised for putting an astronomical tag on the clothes.
“Kanye about to make being homeless in style, spend your life savings to look like you have none” joked one social media user.
And not everyone was impressed by West’s headline-grabbing event. Designer Anne Bowen said that she and her team had to rearrange the date of the show for her streetwear collection, Nomad VII by Anne Bowen, because of West’s last-minute addition.
Even Naeem Khan’s show was scheduled at the same time as West’s on Wednesday. The designer, however, was “confident” that fans of his brand would still turn out to support him despite scheduling conflicts.
Kanye’s star-studded show was attended by family members, including his wife Kim Kardashian, daughter North West, and his sisters-in-law Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian. Meanwhile, Kendall Jenner sat in the second row and watched her younger sister, Kylie Jenner, taking the runway along with friend Bella Hadid for their brother-in-law’s show.
Big names like Drake, Lorde, Seth Meyers, Andre Leon Talley, and Blondie lead singer Debbie Harry were also present. Sitting in the front row were Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci, Common and Michael Strahan. Jaden Smith also attended the show with his girlfriend Sarah Snyder.
The 18-year-old Kylie had previously made her runway debut with West’s show in February, when he showcased Yeezy Season 1 collection. Last season, his models wore hoodies, bodysuits, and loose-fitting pants for the military-inspired presentation.
