Comedian and actor Russell Brand and pop singer Katy Perry filed for divorce after 14 months of marriage when they disagreed over having a baby, the Sunday Mirror reports.

It is reported that Brand would like to have a baby with Perry. Brand, a former heroin addict, has made no secret of his fondness for children, as he stated on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" last month.

Perry said he would also like to have children with Brand, but her constant partying and refusal to settle down at home has been cited as one of the causes of the meltdown of their marriage. A source told the Sunday Mirror Perry does not want to be a typical housewife.

The "Teenage Dream" pop sensation married the comedian on Oct. 23, 2010. However, rumors of divorce and separation have been swirling for the past six months. Speculations were strengthened when they were seen without their wedding rings.

The two spent very little time together because of their hectic work schedule. By October 2011, there were already rumors of the pair splitting up. The rumor heightened when the couple spent the holidays separately. Perry was seen enjoying the beach in Hawaii and Brand spent the holidays in his native England. Neither of them wore their wedding rings.

A week before Christmas, Perry give back her ring to Brand after a big argument and the latter saw it as the final straw. Brand filed for divorce Friday in Los Angeles, citing "irreconcilable differences."

"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage," he said in a statement. "I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

TMZ reported that Perry asked Brand to file for divorce as the singer does not want to upset her parents, who are Christian pastors.
