Next-gen News: Another Game for Xbox 720 & PS4 and Consoles to be PC-like
With some of next-gen games already confirmed and in production, it seems that another one takes the stand as a next-gen game.
Destiny by developer Bungie is currently in the works for both the current and next-gen consoles.
"It's going to look great on PS3, it'll look awesome on 360, and it'll look great on PS4 as well. You can bet that no matter where we are, we're going to make the game look great," said Bungie design director Joseph Staten to GameSpot.
"We've been planning for multiple hardware platforms from the very beginning, and while we can't get into the minute technical details of each console, we're fully committed to delivering our full vision for Destiny on every console we ship on. Currently, that lists is PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
As for other consoles and platforms, such as Xbox 720, the PC, and Wii U, the most that gamers can expect are rumored launches, but it seems that Bungie has not yet tossed the idea of other platform versions of the game.
Xbox 720 and PS4 games: Like a PC
According to OXM.com, it seems that the games for the next-gen consoles are not only going to be PC-driven, but may also give developers a break in terms of developing for various platforms.
"PC developers will be much more comfortable than last-gen console developers. Last gen, the move from PS2 to PS3 or Xbox to the Xbox 360, for many developers was back-breaking," said Cevat Yerli, Crytek CEO, to OXM.com.
"For us going to Xbox 360, we had to work backward, we had to bring down all our technology to make it happen. As opposed to finding ourselves in that situation with today's PC."
What this means for the future of gaming development remains unclear, but from the looks of it, taking out the extra work may prove to be beneficial, as there will be more time to create and experiment on more games.
Next-gen games: Formula for AAA success
Is the mid-level market for the next-gen games in danger? Yannis Mallat, CEO for Ubisoft Montreal thinks so.
The Examiner reports that Mallat thinks that the AAA game developers have the bigger share of the market and the patronage of gamers when it comes to the next-gen consoles, particularly because there wont' be too much value for them in the bigger market.
"There is no room for B-games, if I should say so, which proves the point of quality. I think that companies that put quality and consumer value as primary focus, as we've been doing at Ubisoft, will enjoy great success," said Mallat to The Examiner.
Granted that the company is actually backing up two of the favored games for the next-gen consoles, Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed 4. However, his stance also includes the rise of games in mobile devices, and what their consequences and benefits may bring to the gaming industry.
According to Mallat, what's important for developers to take note of is the quality of their game offers, s well as how studios should start thinking not just about their game outputs, but also about the talents that churn out the games.
"That's my recipe for AAA games," said Mallat to Games Industry. "You gather as much talent as possible, and give them three things: Trust, means, and insane challenges. Usually they come back with pretty good stuff."
