The next James Bond: Fans weigh in on Daniel Craig's replacement
Months after Daniel Craig said he’d rather slash his wrists than reprise his role as James Bond, the movie industry continues to be abuzz with actors who can replace him to play the iconic role.
After finishing four films as 007, the 47-year old actor told Time Out that he’s had enough of James Bond and admitted that if he did return as Bond it would be just for the money. While producers are still mum about the issue, fans are already speculating who will take over the role.
One of the top contenders for the next James Bond is “The Wire” star Idris Alba. Some Ian Fleming fans are excited to watch the first black Bond on the big screen. However, the 43-year old actor doesn’t want to be known as that. “I just don't want to be the black James Bond,” he told the Independent. “Sean Connery wasn't the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn't the blue-eyed James Bond so if I played him I don’t want to be called the black James Bond.”
Previously, he took to Twitter to thank his fans for even considering him for the role. He wrote, “Isn't 007 supposed to handsome? Glad you think I've got a shot!”
Another fan favourite to be the new James Bond is Tom Hardy. The 38-year old actor known for the film “Mad Max: Fury Road” is considered ideal for the role after exuding confidence and coolness that is a 007 signature. “The Only Way Is Essex” star Jake Hall is among those clamoring for Hardy to take on the role. In a tweet, Hall said, “Tom hardy for new bond !!!! Please make that happen.”
Also in the running to become the next James Bond is Damian Lewis from “Homeland.” When asked to confirm the rumours that he’s being considered for the role, Lewis joked, “I would tell you but I would have to kill you,” the Mirror reported. Twitter user @TalOfer says he’d love to see Lewis as the new James Bond, as he’d be perfect for the role.
Fans say other actors who also have high chances of being the next James Bond are Jason Statham, Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill and Tom Hiddleston.
The last James Bond movie, “Spectre” was released to theatres in November 2015. The film, directed by Sam Mendes, earned more than US$ 800 million (AU$ 1.12 billion) according to IMDB.
