Nexus 7 Android 4.3 Video Playback Beats Android 4.4 [VIDEO]
It is odd and intriguing that new tests show Nexus 7 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean video playback beats the Android 4.4 KitKat performance and experience.
The video playback of both the older and new Nexus 7 2013 versions measured the HD video playback online (24 fps, YouTube) and using locally stored video on the device. The analysis was of 720p playback at 1080p playback at 30fps and 60fps and 720p playback at 30fps and 60fps. A video multimeter measured three aspects of the video playback.
One aspect looked into deviation from jerking movements, another is concerned with deviation indicated by the fps rate and the last aspect was about dropped frames giving an error point for each dropped frame.
The original Android 4.3 playback on the Nexus 7 is even better than the playback on Android 4.4 and the resolution was even better on the original Nexus 7 than that of the more recent Nexus 7 2013.
The original Nexus 7 that runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean achieved the best results in video playback, followed by the Nexus 7 2013 that also runs on Android 4.3. The Nexus 7 2 was even unable to play the 60fps video in 720p or 1080p when it runs on Android 4.4 KitKat but managed to do it in 720p when running Android 4.3.
The quality that users used to loved was notably affected by the Android 4.4 update and users should be informed of this before they decide to install the update. This video playback test is of course just one aspect of the many features the overall Android KitKat update can offer but it still is an interesting discovery for those who are very concerned about videos and may want to wait until the fixes are done before upgrading their software from Android 4.3 to Android 4.4.
There are also simple ways to overclock the tablet for increased speed but at the expense of battery life and stability. Users don't necessarily need to overclock their devices to make things faster, they can also just tweak a few settings to reduce lag and increase speed. They can reseed the Entropy Pool (which requires rooting), remove the Middle Man which needs rooting and custom recovery, install a kernel or try a faster ROM with rooting and custom recovery required too. Below are some of the easiest mods they can use:
