Teddy Bridgewater, who was recently drafted to play for the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL, made a promise when he was nine years old. The now 21-year old quarterback had made a promise to his mother, Rose Murphy, which he never forgot even after 12 years.

Daily News reported although it's been more than a decade, Bridgewater made sure that he fulfils his promise to his mother, who is a breast cancer survivor.

"When I was in third grade, I promised my mom I would get her a pink Cadillac Escalade. Pink is the colour that represents breast cancer awareness, so I just want to get her that big pink Escalade truck and see that big smile on her face," he said.

ABCnews reported that Bridgewater had promised his mom a pink Cadillac Escalade with pink rims when he makes it to the NFL. True to his word, after being drafted into the Minnesota Vikings, Bridgewater surprised Rose Murphy with that.

The athlete's story as a rising football player who made it through high school and college while caring for his mom while battling breast cancer caught the attention of filmmaker Spike Lee.

The director, who won the Peabody Award in 2011, documented the touching moment in a short film. He said he couldn't be prouder to have helped Bridgewater live out his dream of giving his mother the Escalade.

With the support from Cadillac, Lee directed and produced the seven-minute documentary about the family entitled, "A #Promise2Rose".

The film ended with Bridgewater surprising Rose Murphy with the pink Cadillac after her birthday luncheon in New York's Le Cirque restaurant.

"It was just amazing. I was in awe. I was like, 'Oh my God,'" Murphy told "Good Morning America".

"It was a long time coming and just to see it, I was in awe," she added.

The Escalade was painted in a custom shade of pink as requested by Bridgewater and redesigned to match the 2015 model.

According to Daily News, the short film made focus on Bridgewater's strengths, both on and off the field, along with his mother's strong influence on him and his entire team.
