NFL News: Denver Broncos Hire Gary Kubiak As Head Coach
Less than a week after parting ways with John Fox, the Denver Broncos have found their replacement head coach in Gary Kubiak, who has been signed to a four-year deal by the squad. Kubiak was a former player for the Broncos from 1983 to 1991 and served as a back-up to star quarterback John Elway, who is currently the general manager of the team.
As a coach, Kubiak he has a rich experience both in the college and pro level. Kubiak was the running backs coach for Texas A&M University from 1992 to 1993, quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 1994, offensive coordinator/QB coach for the Denver Broncos from 1995 to 2002, offensive coordinator for the Broncos from 2003 to 2005, head coach of the Houston Texans from 2006 to 2013 and offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens in 2014.
"Gary Kubiak has established a track record of leadership, success and high character during his 30 seasons in the NFL," Broncos general manager John Elway said in an official statement. ”While there is no question he is a Bronco, what Gary has learned from his other opportunities around the league -- especially in his eight seasons as a head coach -- will tremendously benefit our organisation.”
Kubiak is a three-time NFL champion as a player and was the head coach for the AFC 2012 Pro Bowl team. In his first five years as Texans head coach, Kubiak struggled to lead the team with just a 37-43 win-loss record and failed to reach the postseason. Kubiak and the Texans turned it around in 2011 with a 10-6 r and 2012 with a 12-4 win-loss records to bag first place in the AFC South. The Texans made the postseason in those years but lost in the divisional round playoffs both times.
Meanwhile, Peyton Manning has yet to announce if he’ll return for another run with the Broncos. If he does return, one of the interesting storylines in Denver is how will Manning work within Kubiak’s offensive system.
