Kansas City Chiefs never had a great shot at bringing back tight end Tony Gonzalez, a source close to situation reported on Thursday.

The Chiefs were rumored interested in adding another receiver in their offensive unite, and most of all, bringing the football legend back to Kansas since he was traded to the Falcons in 2009.

However, Atlanta general manager Thomas Dimitroff confirmed that the Falcons were never close in trading Gonzales to the Chiefs.

Nevertheless, the Falcons GM is still confident the Falcons will find a way to get themselves out of a big hole and perhaps make a miracle run towards the playoffs.

"We owe it to our owner, our fans, our coaches and our players to win as many games as possible, and we believe that we have the pieces to be a good football team," Dimitroff told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We know we have dug ourselves a hole, but together we can dig ourselves out and that is what we are focused on."

Gonzalez, 13-time Pro Bowl selection, spent his first 11 seasons with the Chiefs. He's expected to retire at the end of this season.
