NFL News: Robert Griffin III Quitting Social Media By End Of Season
No more Twitter or Facebook for Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. The star QB has announced that he’d be staying away from the social media sites after the 2014 National Football League (NFL) regular season, according to a report.
"It just felt like, for me, anything I was saying, whether it was positive or negative, whether it was a positive retweet or anything, was getting twisted and turned against me and against this team. I feel I can be free up here and talk to you guys, but sometimes things get twisted and turned and it creates a distraction for the team. I didn't want that to happen,” The 24-year-old quarterback also popularly known as “RG3” said in an ESPN article.
The third year pro is off another disappointing season with the Washington Redskins, which currently is out of the playoff race with a 3-11 record. Griffin has played in just 7 out of 14 games this season owing to a season-ending injury last season. He has a total of 1,138 passing yards on 104-of-150 completions with 3 touchdowns, 3 interceptions and 4 fumbles for the season. Griffin also has 146 rushing yards on 27 carries and is still considered one of the potential good dual quarterbacks in the game.
"Sometimes you don't understand certain things and they don't go the way you want them to go, but if I get criticized for retweeting about going to a charity event for a foundation, I mean what else can you do? So I decided to shut it down and not focus on it,” Griffin, who was drafted 2nd overall by the Redskins in the 2012 NFL Draft, added in the article.
Adding intrigue to the whole situation is the fact that Redskins head coach Jay Gruden publicly criticised his play in a 27-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 11. Griffin, who is considered one of the vocal players in the league and most active on social media has a total of two posts in his Twitter account the past two weeks.
