NFL News: Union Demands For Immediate Reinstatement Of Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson
The National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) is demanding that Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings be reinstated in the league immediately. The running back was suspended by the NFL following a felony child abuse case in Texas.
"The NFLPA has filed an expedited, non-injury grievance to remove Adrian Peterson from the Commissioner's Exempt list based on explicit language in a signed agreement dated September 18, 2014,” an official statement from the NFLPA stated. The NFLPA and Peterson are hoping for a expedited process on a probable reinstatement so that the running back can join the Vikings immediately.
"We asked the NFL to honor the terms of that agreement last week and as of now, they have failed to respond or comply. It is our obligation to protect all players' rights, and we will pursue any and all breaches of any contract between a player and his team or the NFL.”
Minnesota, who is coming off a bye week in Week 10 of the regular season, will face the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The Vikings currently own a 4-5 win-loss record, third place in the NFC North behind the Detroit Lions (7-2) and Green Bay Packers (6-3), but are still in contention for a wildcard slot in the NFC.
"In regards to Adrian Peterson's status with the Minnesota Vikings, at this time his potential reinstatement is under NFL guidelines,” the Vikings published on their official website. "As an organization, we respect and understand the league's process. In the interim, our focus is on the team and preparing for this weekend's game against the Bears.”
Peterson has played in only one game for the Vikings in the 2014 NFL Season in the team’s opening game versus the St. Louis Rams. The 29-year-old RB had 75 yards on 21 carries and helped Minnesota to a 34-6 victory. He was fifth in the league in total rushing yards in 2013 with 1,266 yards and led the league in the same category in 2012 with 2,097 yards. Peterson is considered one of the best players in the entire league.
