Their respective shows are now defunct, but their characters live on. Jennette McCurdy’s Sam (from “iCarly”) and Ariana Grande’s Cat (from “Victorious”) have come together to form their own show on Nickelodeon.

“Sam and Cat” will follow the story of Sam Puckette and Cat Valentine, two opposite girls who become roommates after they moved in Los Angeles. Sam, the tough and street smart best friend of Carly (Miranda Cosgrove) has found a new best friend in the sweet but naive Cat after Carly moved to Italy.

Sam and Cat together make an unlikely but interesting pair. To fuel their love for adventure, they set up a babysitting business, which also becomes the subject of their storyline.

The show has already premiered in the U.S. last week, but Australian fans will have to wait until October to watch the pilot of the show.

The girls have signed on for twenty episodes with executive producer Dan Schneider, who created both their previous shows (“iCarly” and “Victorious”), as well other Nick teen shows like “Drake & Josh” and “Zoey 101.”

It remains to be seen if “Sam & Cat” will be as successful as the girls’ former shows since both are tough to beat. “Victorious” and “iCarly” were the network’s highest rating live action comedies when they were still airing.

It looks like they have good lead, though. Both McCurdy and Grande have become fan favourites while playing their respective characters. McCurdy won the LOL Award at the 2011 Australian Kids’ Choice Awards, as well as the Favourite Sidekick gong at the 2012 Kids’ Choice Awards. Grande, meanwhile, took home the Favourite Television Actress at the Hollywood Teen TV Awards in 2012.
