Nicki Minja's Mother Opens Up About Domestic Violence And How Her Husband Used To Beat Nicki
Nicki Minaj's tough exterior and her successful career does not reflect the amount of pain that she has suffered in her childhood. But in reality, the rapper and her family have been the subject of domestic violence in her childhood. Minaj's mother, Carol, has come out and spoken about Nicki's alcoholic and cocaine-addict dad Robert and how he used to beat Nicki when she was a child. The mother revealed details about the presence of domestic violence in her life and added that her 31-year-old rapper daughter used all the abuse and violence in her childhood to turn herself into a more career-oriented woman.
"My husband used to get high on cocaine and alcohol and would come home and terrorise the whole family. He would hit the children, too," the 54-year-old revealed to The Sun. Carol further revealed that she tried to escape from the clutches of her violent husband many times but she was always caught and "punched in the face."
The mommy to "Anaconda" singer further alleges that her husband once burned down their New York-based home in a fit of rage, but since Nicki and her two brothers Micaiah and Jelani were living at neighbour's house, they were unharmed.
Nicki Minaj has earlier too opened up about her abusive father and presence of domestic violence in her previous interview with Rolling Stone magazine. "When I first came to America I would go in my room and kneel down at the foot of my bed and pray that God would make me rich so that I could take care of my mother," revealed Nicki in a 2010 interview with the magazine.
Nicki reportedly moved from Trinidad to New York when she was 5 yearsold and started living with her grandmother. Strangely enough, Nicki's mother still lives with her abusive husband. Nicki's dad does not want her daughter to share these stories about their childhood but the rapper does not want to hide anything.
The rapper gave a strong message to all the abusive dads, warning them that they should control themselves from doing wrong, as they never know if their children would become famous and start revealing their dirty secrets to the press. "It's the price you pay when you abuse drugs and alcohol," added Nicki.
